The International Network for Small and Medium Enterprises (INSME) recently held an engaging and informative lecture at the ITS Academy, titled “Blockchain, Marketing and the Agri-food Supply Chain: Innovation, Challenges and the TRUSTFOOD Case.” The session provided students with valuable insights into blockchain technology and its transformative potential for the agri-food industry.
During the lecture, INSME experts introduced the core concepts of blockchain, including its decentralized structure, consensus mechanisms, and applications in real-world scenarios. A particular focus was placed on how blockchain can enhance traceability, transparency, and efficiency across agri-food supply chains — areas of increasing importance for both consumers and producers.
The session also addressed the key challenges currently facing the broader adoption of blockchain. These include issues such as scalability, energy consumption, and regulatory uncertainty — all critical factors for businesses considering integrating blockchain into their operations.
In the second half of the session, INSME spotlighted the TRUSTFOOD project, a forward-thinking initiative aimed at democratizing access to blockchain technology for SMEs and agri-food professionals. The lecture emphasized the project’s development of free, multilingual online courses, specifically designed to equip learners with practical skills in blockchain and supply chain innovation.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where students demonstrated a high level of engagement and curiosity about the subject. Their participation underscored a growing interest in the role of emerging technologies in shaping the future of the agri-food sector.
The TRUSTFOOD team is proud to support education and innovation, and this lecture is another step toward building a more transparent, efficient, and sustainable food system.
